As per official guidelines and notifications issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD, Govt. of India), and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), open and distance learning is recognized as a legitimate mode of education, equivalent to formal schooling and regular mode for academic and professional purposes.
