Advancing Academic Mobility through Flexible and Recognized Learning

Program Overview

The Senior Secondary Program of the Open and Distance Learning Council (ODLC) is equivalent to Class 12 of formal school education and is designed to meet the academic aspirations of learners seeking higher secondary certification. The Course is nationally aligned and enables progression to higher education, vocational training, or employment in the public and private sectors.

  • Eligibility: Completion of Secondary (Class 10) from a recognized board
  • Mode of Delivery: Open, Distance & Online Learning (ODL)
  • Program Validity: Registration valid for 5 years
  • Medium of Instruction: Hindi / English / Regional Languages (as notified by ODLC)

Subject Selection Guidelines

  • Learners must choose a minimum of 5 subjects, including at least one language
  • A maximum of 7 subjects may be selected
  • Subjects are categorized into Group A (Languages) and Group B (Academic and Elective Subjects)
  • Transfer of Credit (TOC) is permissible for up to 2 subjects from recognized boards (as per equivalency guidelines)

Assessment and Certification

  • Theory and Practical Examinations: Subjects with practical components (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Home Science, Painting) include both theory and practicals
  • Passing Criteria: Minimum 33% in each subject
  • Certification: Senior Secondary Certificate awarded by ODLC is valid for university admissions, competitive exams, and government/private employment (subject to applicable norms)

Additional Academic Provisions

  • Transfer of Credit (TOC): Up to two subjects from previously passed board examinations (recognized by COBSE/AIU & any Government recognized board) may be credited, subject to ODLC’s TOC policy
  • Learning Materials: Self-instructional materials provided in both digital and printed formats, as per learner preference
  • Learner Support Services: LMS access, academic counselling, tutor-marked assignments (TMAs), and exam guidance provided through ODLC and its affiliated centers
